Privacy Policy

If you have a question about anything on this page, or you want to know what we hold about you, contact us through our contact page and we will answer.

GuitarHarbor publishes reviews and buying guides for guitars, basses and starter bundles. We do not sell anything and we do not take payments, so we never ask you for card details, a billing address or a delivery address. This policy sets out the information we do collect, why we have it, and what you can do about it.

Information you give us directly

If you send us a message through our contact form, we collect the name, email address and message text you type in. Those submissions are saved in this website’s own database, not only forwarded by email. We keep them so we can reply, so we can pick up a conversation that runs over several messages, and so we have a record if a complaint or a takedown request is raised later.

We use that information to answer you and for nothing else. We do not add you to a marketing list because you contacted us. If you would like your message and details deleted, ask us and we will remove them.

Information collected automatically

This site runs its own analytics, served from analytics.devdome.com. It records page views, the page you were on, general referral information, and a visitor identifier so that several page views can be recognised as one visit. We use this to see which guides people actually read and which pages are broken or ignored. This is not Google Analytics and we do not run Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager on this site.

Our web server and our content delivery provider also keep standard request logs. These include IP addresses, timestamps, the address requested, and browser and device information. Logs of this kind are how any website is kept running and defended against abusive traffic. They are retained for a limited period as a rolling record and then cycle out, rather than being kept indefinitely as a profile of you.

When you click through to Amazon

Product links pass through a redirect address on this site before reaching Amazon, which records the click and sets a first-party visitor identifier cookie in your browser. This is how a purchase gets attributed to us. Our Cookie Policy explains it in more detail.

Once you arrive at Amazon you are on Amazon’s website and Amazon’s own privacy policy applies to everything that happens there. We never see your Amazon account, what you put in your basket, your payment details or your delivery address. Reporting we receive from the Associates Program is aggregated and does not identify individual buyers.

Others who handle data on our behalf

Cloudflare sits in front of this site as a content delivery network and security layer, so Cloudflare processes request data including IP addresses before traffic reaches us. Our own analytics service processes the page view data described above. Author avatar images may be requested from Gravatar, and social sharing buttons for networks such as Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Reddit, Pinterest and WhatsApp only contact those networks if you click them.

We do not sell your personal data

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not hand contact form submissions to advertisers or data brokers. The only circumstances in which we would disclose information are to the service providers listed above so the site can function, or where we are legally required to.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy of it, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also ask us to stop using it. Write to us through our contact page, tell us what you want done, and give us enough detail to find your records, such as the email address you used. We will not charge you for asking and we will not make it difficult.

You can also block or clear cookies in your browser, and you can use your browser’s private mode. Doing so does not stop you reading anything on this site.

Children

This site is written for adults buying instruments. Children should not send us personal information through the contact form. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe a child has sent us their details, tell us and we will delete them.

Changes and questions

This policy is reviewed periodically and may change as the site changes. Questions, concerns and requests all go to the same place, our contact page or [email protected].
